Bartender's guide

Whether you are planning on becoming a professional bartender, or want to be able to create quality drinks in your home bar, or restaurant, follow the list below to help you mix the perfect drink .

Bartender's Eighteen Commandments

1. Remember, clean and diplomatic bartender is essential .

2. Always keep your glasses and equipment clean and polished. See that glasses are chilled before serving.

3. As in any profession, try to set your bar so that it is both presentable the and efficient to work in, and keep it that way for the next shift by returning bottles to their proper places after use.

4.Your hands are in full view, pay special attention to your fingernails. Keep them short. Use neutral colors nail polish if you do.

5. See that you have a plentiful supply of ice and that it is always clean. Clean ice is essential for cocktail. Replace half melted ice in regularly.

6. Remember that broken glasses is synonymous with law suites.

7. Never put your fingers inside a glass or near to the rim. Handle glasses by the base or stem.

8. When serving drinks or wine at a table always serve from the right of each person. Hold the bottle from the bottom and turn the label facing the customer so that they can read the label they have ordered.

9. When corking champagne, do not allow a champagne cork to pop. When opening the bottle, cut off the foil, hold the cork tight and slowly turn the bottle until cork loosens, hold it away from the customer and let it slowly twist out to release the pressure. You should make a low hissing sound. Do not pop.

10. Just as with any other profession, always carry the tools of your trade, a bartender should always have such things as a pen or pencil, cigarette lighter, matches, wine opener, knife, and a cigar cutter.
Poor-quality products are counter productive. Always use good-quality products.

11. Try extracting juice from citrus fruit by soaking in hot water, before squeezing. You get better result.

12. Always break an egg in a separate glass before using to test its freshness.

13. Often busy bars use pre-mixes, such as Bloody Mary mix, sour mix, lemon juice, egg white and gomme syrup.

14 Decoration of a cocktail or mixed drink is a matter of individual taste. this Remember that when you please the eye, you please the palate as well.

15. Remember cocktail is a mixture and will separate if left too long.
In a mixed order of drinks, always make the cocktails last so that they can be served fresh.
A short, snappy Shake (Do not rock) is sufficient.

16. Always pour the inexpensive ingredient into the mixing glass first. So if you mistaken, you will have not wasted the expensive spirits.

17. Do not fill a glass to the brim. It will result in costly spillage, unnecessary dry cleaning bill and messy counter.
