The famous 3-star Troisgros is, in fact, an old family
home. Behind today's La Maison Troisgros and Michel
Troisgros is two generations of fine dining. Jean-Baptiste
and Marie Troisgros arrived at Roanne in 1930 and bought
the old Hotel des Platanes, a modest traditional restaurant.
Jean-Baptist had ambitions for his two young sons, Jean
and Pierre, and they accepted the challenge of creating
a truly fine restaurant willingly. Training at Lucas
Carton and Maxim's in Paris and Point in Vienne, they
returned to start their own kitchen, and quickly earned
a Michelin star. Then another. And then three. Anne-marie,
Michel's younger sister, has her Gravelier restaurant
in Bordeaux, while in Brazil Claude, Michel's older
brother, has his own celebrated Troisgros restaurant.
And, in New York, one of Jean Troisgros' children runs
the kitchens at Lutece.
