LOMBARDI'S
32 Spring St. New York, NY 10012-4173
Cross Street: Between Mulberry Street and Mott Street
(212) 941-7994
The reason to come here is obvious: A laid-back destination for brilliant coal-oven pizza that more than lives up to its lofty reputation.
Opened in 1897 at 53 Spring St., just down the street from its present location, Lombardi's is easily one of the city's oldest eateries. Now, since taking over the space next door, the restaurant has almost doubled its former size.
Beautiful, smoky-crusted pizza with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. The genius of this pizza starts with the crust, which is black and crispy on the underside but gives way to a wonderfully soft, yeasty interior. Signature toppings like double-cut pepperoni and homemade meatballs, along with the restaurant's famous clam pie, keep tourists, locals, and regulars coming back.

FAMOUS JOE'S PIZZA
7 Carmine St. New York, NY 10014
Cross Street: Bleecker Street
(212) 255-3946
New York's spot for a quick slice.
If you're really set on eating here yo' ll have to settle for a few small tables, but most people order pie delivery or order a slice to go.
Most of New York's top pizza joints don't serve slices, and most of New York's slice palaces serve pizza with cheese oozing off the pie. Joe's occupies a crucial middle ground, churning out crisp, thin-cut slices with just the right amount of cheese bubbling lightly on top. Pies include pepperoni, mushroom and other toppings.
