The highlight of the restaurant is the Rainbow Room itself,
the stunning gold- and silver-draped ballroom situated
around a slowly-revolving dance floor. Shifting patterns
of color play off a reflecting dome and a huge crystal
chandelier gleams overhead. When couples take to the floor
to the music of the 12-piece big band, the effect is magical.
Highbrow diners have always looked a little askance at
what comes out of the kitchen at this mea-volume restaurant.
